But First, Skincare.

Find out my top 4 skincare tips for all skin types.

Did you know skin is your body’s largest organ? It is your body’s first line of defense, and needs care just as the rest of your body’s organs do. And skin care things like sunless tanner and makeup will be better accepted by the skin.

As an oily skin girl, my skin care routine is absolutely vital to having a good makeup day. And even though it has taken 13 years, two rounds of Accutane, and countless skin myths and products, I have finally found the routines and products that leave my skin healthy and clear (with the exception of the hormonal breakout). Here are my top 4 basic skin care tips for beautiful skin for all skin types.

1. NEVER go to bed with makeup on your face.

Sleeping with makeup on your face can age you 7 years faster? Scary!!! Always, always, always take the makeup off your face. Your skin needs a chance to breathe. To take my makeup off I begin by soaking two cotton rounds in micellar water and gently pressing one onto each eye. I let them sit on my eyes for 5-10 seconds to begin to dissolve the makeup and then gently in upward motions wipe the makeup away. My current favorite is the Garnier SkinActive Cleansing Water.

Next I take a cleansing balm or oil and gently massage a nickel sized amount around my cheeks, t-zone, and lips to remove the rest of my makeup. I’m currently obsessed with the Dermalogica PreCleanse.

Lastly, I use a makeup removing cleanser to remove any remaining makeup, micellar water and PreCleanse. I begin by wetting my face and then I gently massage the Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser all over. Finally be sure to rinse thoroughly.

2. Cleanse your skin in the AM and PM.

Giving your face a fresh start both morning and night is important to keeping healthy skin. We want to wash away the makeup, dirt, oil, sweat, and what ever other pollutants our skin has come into contact with from the day, but also the skin can produce oil and sweat that we might be unaware of during sleep.

I like to pair the Gentle Skin Cleanser by Cetaphil with my Clarisonic Mia FIT to get a deep, yet gentle cleanse. The Clarisonic is an expensive tool, but this has made the single biggest difference for keeping my acne prone skin clear, so to me, it is worth it. If you have more questions about the Clarisonic, leave a comment below and I would be happy to answer them below.

3. Moisturize, even if you have oily skin.

Many people think by adding a moisturizer when you have oily skin, it will make you even more oily, but this is pure myth. When your skin is producing excess oil, it is because it is dehydrated and trying to balance itself out. I love the Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Hydrator and the Neutrogena Hydro-Boost Water Gel for all skin types. Both contain hyaluronic acid which adds and holds moisture to the skin making it feel plump and hydrated. It is important to moisturize the skin every time after cleansing.

4. H2O!!

Drinking water is the easiest thing you can do to help your skin, and is important for keeping your entire body healthy. To determine how much water you should be drinking a day take your weight and multiply it by 0.66. That is the number of ounces of water that is recommended for you to consume in a 24 hour period. If you work out, add another 12 ounces for every 30 minutes of  physical activity you participate in daily.
